Meet EL-MAHDI
Georgia State Representative El-Mahdi Holly was elected into public office in 2018, by building a broad coalition of local support to earn his seat by a solid majority vote - making history as both the 1st person of color and the 1st Democrat to win his historically Republican semi-rural district.

Known locally as “EL”, Representative Holly has proudly called Henry County home since 2003. Raised in Georgia by his father, a Christian minister and businessman, and his mother, a local college professor, Holly was taught the importance of active voluntarism in serving the community and solving problems at a very early age.
After being awarded the National Youth Service Award from President Bill Clinton for his efforts mentoring young teens, Holly pursued and received a Bachelor of Arts from Morehouse College. He went on to earn a Masters of Public Administration from University of West Georgia.
A proud member of Tabernacle of Praise Church in McDonough, Holly has maintained an active daily schedule, attending to the needs of his local constituents, including city & county officials, while also engaging members of Georgia’s business community to help provide better life opportunities.

Since being elected in 2018, Representative Holly has sponsored & co-sponsored 206 pieces of legislation, founded the Georgia Africa Legislative Caucus (the 1st in the nation) to support minority business growth, passed a law outlawing and penalizing worker misclassification, granted multiple authorities for his counties, and has won numerous recognitions including the coveted “Legislator of the Year” awards from The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (2022) and The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (2023-2024). He is also the proud sponsor of the Annual BLACK MEN & BOYS DAY, in partnership with Black Male Initiative Georgia and The Black Man Lab at the State Capitol.
